Detective John Cardinal is pulled into the murder investigation of a 13-year-old girl whose body is found in the shaft-head of an abandoned mine. As the case grows more violent and disturbing, Cardinal works alongside his new partner, Lise Delorme, a determined investigator who is also looking into him. With past wrongs threatening to surface, Cardinal risks losing both the case and his career.
