Barney Thomson, an awkward and diffident barber in Glasgow, Scotland, has settled into a life of desperate mediocrity. His days are dull, his world is small, and nothing about him suggests danger or excitement. But his uninteresting routine is about to accelerate suddenly, pulling him into a grotesque and comically absurd world connected to a serial killer.
