A weak-willed Italian man falls in with fascism and becomes a compliant servant of the regime. Eager to prove his loyalty, he is sent abroad with a chilling assignment: to help arrange the assassination of his former teacher, who has become a political dissident. As duty, ideology and personal history collide, he moves deeper into the role demanded of him.
