The fugitive starship MEAD carries a lone passenger, Friz, while staying one step ahead of pursuing Earth forces. Their escape depends on an unusual ability: projecting Friz’s thoughts into illusions convincing enough to mislead anyone closing in. As the chase continues, new technology is being developed to see through their deception and bring the outlaws’ flight to an end.
