Walt Kowalski, a disgruntled and prejudiced Korean War veteran, keeps a close watch over his prized possession: a 1972 Gran Torino. When his neighbor Thao Lor, a Hmong teenager, tries to steal the car, Walt is drawn into an uneasy connection with the boy. Determined in his own harsh way, he sets out to reform Thao while facing the possibility of redeeming himself.
