On the eve of retirement, Sandra Abbott’s comfortable life unravels when she discovers that her husband has been having an affair with her best friend. With nowhere else to turn, the judgmental, middle-class Sandra takes refuge in London with her estranged older sister, Bif, a free-spirited woman living on an inner-city council estate. Pulled into Bif’s community dance class, Sandra begins to rediscover her footing.
