In pre-revolutionary Russia, a poor Jewish milkman holds tightly to tradition as the world around him begins to change. When three of his daughters fall in love with men guided by modern romantic ideals, he struggles to reconcile family, faith, and custom, even as rising antisemitism threatens the future of his village.
