A rowdy, unorthodox Santa Claus struggles to keep his declining business alive as the world around him loses faith in his work. At the same time, Billy, a neglected and precocious 12-year-old, reacts to finding a lump of coal in his stocking with a dangerous plan: he hires a hit man to kill Santa, setting the holiday figure against a threat unlike any he has faced.
