Corky, a tough ex-con working on an apartment renovation in a Chicago building, meets Violet, the seductive girlfriend of Caesar, a paranoid mobster who lives next door. Drawn to each other, Corky and Violet begin an affair and devise a dangerous plan to steal millions in hidden mob money, leaving Caesar to take the blame.
